Do you ever feel stuck? Do you feel like you keep striving to get to that next level in your business or personal life but keep hitting a wall? Does it feel like no matter how hard you hustle, you do not seem to be going anywhere? In fact, it seems like you are going around in circles, feeling even more frustrated with each turn. Well if you have ever had any of these feeling, let me tell you that you are not alone.
I do not believe that what sets people back is lack of talent or ability. The real problem is much simpler and the real enemy is often much closer than we think. When it comes to achieving our goals, we are often our own worst enemy.
The NUMBER 1 LIE that is holding you back is THE BELIEF THAT WHAT YOU DESIRE IS NOT POSSIBLE!
This is the single greatest belief or factor that can keep us from achieving our full potential. If you think about it in the simplest of terms, it is not possible to achieve something that you don’t believe is possible to achieve.
Do any of these phrases sound familiar to you?
- “I cannot do that”
- “I don’t have enough money”
- “I don’t have the time, have enough experience, etc “
I could go on and on, but you get the point. Chances are that you have had some of these thoughts or even said some of them out loud.
On the surface you feel like you want this thing but you also feel that the things you want are so out of your reach that it doesn’t make sense to take action towards it. It is impossible for your mind to hold two opposing beliefs and still take action towards it. I have heard the analogy that you cannot put one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake and expect to go anywhere.
Here is a practical example that I currently battle. I have been on a journey to that summer body for the past few years. Yes Years- many summers have come and gone and I have not reached my goal. I have a vision in mind, but the problem is that my subconscious tells me that that goal is not attainable for me. I know the action that I have to take (work out and eat well) but if I do not think that my goal is ultimately possible, I am not likely to wake up an hour earlier to go to the gym. Why would I deprive myself an hour of sleep for something that is only an illusion? I am sure that you can think of other situations more relevant to your goals where you are doing something similar.
If you find yourself in a cycle where you are not getting what you want, the good news is that it is 100% possible to overcome it. Here are 3 practical steps to doing so.
1. Replace those negative beliefs with positive beliefs.
It is really as easy as it sounds. Instead of focusing on the negative, turn your thoughts around to think the complete opposite. For instance, if it is a goal of yours to get married to a great man, stop saying things like “There are no good men around” . You literally have to just turn it around and say the opposite “There are plenty of good men around” . You may not believe it at first, but you have to keep repeating it till it becomes second nature.
Its going to take time to install these new beliefs into your life, but trust me that it will make the world of difference. Not only will you be generally happier, you will actually start taking action towards your goals and ambitions.
2. Celebrate the little things
We talked earlier about how your goals can seem far outside of your reach that you feel like you cannot possibly do anything to get you there. One way that you can make your big goals more manageable is by breaking big tasks into little tasks. Celebrate small achievements and milestones – this will help to keep up the momentum and keep you dedicated. If you are like me and trying to reach some big fitness goal, you can start by celebrating the little wins. If you did a 10 minute exercise, celebrate that. Feel good about that achievement and use that as motivation to continue to take action.
3. Surround yourself with positive, like minded people
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. If you are going to be a goal getter, you have to surround yourself with other goal getters. These people will be great role models and will motivate you to do better. You can find groups and events online. www.meetup.com/ and https://www.eventbrite.ca/ are great sites to find or start these types of groups.
