Its that time of the year between the Holidays and the New Year where everyone is making goals and new years resolutions. There’s so much pressure for resolutions and perhaps you are one of those people itching for the new year to start so you can throw away 2017 and all the baggage that came with it. Or maybe 2017 has been your best year yet- you met all your resolutions and you can’t wait for the New Year to continue on that momentum. I’m not sure where I fall within that spectrum, but I would like to share with you all some steps I take to plan for the new year.
This is an important step that most people forget to do. We are so focused with setting goals that we forget to reflect on the past 365 days.
Some questions to ask yourself include:
- What were your successes and failures this past year?
- What contributed to those successes and failures?
- Is there anything that you would do differently if given the chance to re-do the year?
- What did I spend time on that gave me no value?
- What will I remember most fondly about the year?
2. Create a Vision Board
This is the first year that I am actually doing this! A vision board is basically a collection of things that inspire you- what you want out of the year. And I am excited to use this during the year and also at the end of the year to see if any of my ‘visions’ came to be. You can follow me on Pinterest and check out my vision board for 2018 HERE.
3. Prayer Points
At the end of a year, I generally write a list of big picture prayer points for that I have for the year ahead. For instance, last year one of the biggest points was my move to Toronto and all the things that came with that. (I intend to share my experiences on this in more in depth at a later date). Now when I look back at those prayers that I came to God for, Its amazing how he has answered them all- and all to PERFECTION. This is something that I would encourage- not because its a way to get God to do what YOU want him to do.. but its a way to reflect on the wonders of God- because whether those prayers are answered the way YOU want or not, you will hopefully be able to see Gods hand in it all when you reflect at the end of next year.
4. Get organized
One of my biggest goals this year.. as it is every year is to stay organized! This year is different as I have gone through so many changes in 2017 (stay tuned for my next post-a review of 2017). Between being responsible for the day to day running of our home, paying bills, working full time, managing a blog, trying to stay healthy and sane, it is important that I am more organized than ever. Check out my previous post HERE to find out how I do it (or at least attempt to do it) all…
I will also be making use of several productivity tools to help me stay organized! Check out this one I found HERE
5. Set Goals
To me this is the last step and I’ll admit I’m not the best when it comes to setting goals. I don’t like making goals that I may or may not keep.. you get? So instead I just cruise through life hoping/ believing that things will work out. And sometimes they do but this is not the best way to go through life.
By now everyone should know that to create Goals, they must be SMART
So friends.. as we wind down 2017, I would encourage you to think about your #2018goals!
What are some of your #2018goals ?? How do you plan for the new year? Why not leave a comment below.. I hope that we are all able to achieve or goals this year!!
