It was just over a month ago that Women of colour (WOC) all over the world (or where Fenty Beauty is available) were lining up to purchase Rihanna’s ‘inclusive’ debut makeup line. It was the hot topic of conversation for black girls everywhere and I was determined to not bow to peer pressure by following my mates to line up for foundation. I told myself that I had not finished with the foundation that I have.. besides, I did not have the $$ to be forking out on foundation and highlighter because it has Rihanna’s name on it. Who else is catching my drift? ??
Three weeks and over a hundred youtube reviews later, I gave in to FOMO ya’ll!!! I gave in!! ??? Who were you fooling Amara?
After trying on these products for a while now, I thought I would do a review. Is there any space left on the bandwagon? I know a few people who are still holding out, trying to decide what to get so I will give my 2 cents on what I got and whether I would recommend spending your hard earned coins or not.
The much raved about foundation is a medium coverage foundation that blends well with the skin to provide an even finish that looks like skin. Unlike many foundations that look ‘caked on’ the more product used, this seems to melt into the skin like butter.
Its hard to explain what I love about the foundation because I feel like you have to try it to know it. I am a fan of its lightweight formulation- a little bit does go a long way and it is perfect for everyday use.
I wasn’t going to buy the primer at first, but then I watched makeup guru Jackie Aina say that if you are going to use a foundation, you have to use it with a primer to get the full and intended benefit of the foundation. The primer is great- it feels like lotion and does blur out the skin a bit. I have also tried this foundation without the primer and didn’t notice much difference without. Would I recommend this product to my friends?
If you are looking for a primer to start using, you can try this one. It feels great on the skin and doesn’t not leave a residue which is great. However, I feel like it is expensive and the foundation works well on its own/ with other primers. So if you have a primer thats working for you, I would recommend to keep using that one.

Shinin’ shinin’ shinin’ shinin’ yeah..
I chose to get the Killawat highlighter in the shade ‘Trophy Wife’ after seeing lots of mixed reviews online about this product. People either hate it or love it…its almost like theres no in between. It all comes down to your particular skin tone and undertone. What I am finding is that people with a yellow or more golden undertone complain that this highlighter is very unflattering whereas those with a cooler undertone love it.
What I love about this product is the pigment!! Can we talk about the PIGMENT?!
As a woman of colour it is hard to find highlighters that actually show up on our skin tone. Whats great about this one is that it not only shows up, it is there to make a statement.
The Matchsticks Trio
Retail Price: $67 CAD
I got the colour: Deep 400 with shades Suede, Espresso and Sinamon. The Match Stixs are also available individually for $31 so if your thinking of getting more than 1, it may make sense to get the trio.
The problem with a trio is that there is always that product that you end up not liking or not using. For me that was the Suede shade which is supposed to be used as a concealer. It is a bit too similar to my skintone and doesn’t provide the coverage I would usually like for my under eye area. I like the fact that the Espresso is very dark and easily blendable as a contour. The sinnamon shade is also a very pretty highlight for my skintone.
Rihanna only has 1 lip colour in her entire collection. She chose to have only 1 colour in a shade that would look good on all skin tones. The reason it looks good on all skin tones is because it is… clear. The lipgloss is clear. I have a whole tub of vaseline at home that cost less than this lipgloss.
Shade aside, it does have a slight pink tint to it but there are a lot of other great lip products on the market. I don’t believe this product offers much benefit when compared to the others.
As great as my opinions are, I would really love to hear your thoughts on these products. If you’ve tried them, thinking of trying them or just have any questions about any of them Let me know below!
Don’t forget to look back at my previous post on Fenty Beauty to see my thoughts on the line as a whole.
