I strongly believe that a great morning routine is essential to having a more productive day. I shared the exact morning routine that I started a few months ago. This morning routine basically saved my sanity.
As a first time mom, I was in a state of constant exhaustion and nothing I did seemed to be helping me have enough energy to get through the day. All of that changed when I started waking up earlier. And yes- it didn’t make sense to me either initially, but as I worked on my routine, I found that I not only had more energy but also was able to be way more productive throughout the day.
I will share with you my top tips to help you design a morning routine that will help you be more productive. More importantly, these are tips that you can customize to YOUR own life.
I am not here to tell you that waking up at a certain time is going to be best for you. What you will walk away with are the EXACT STEPS that I took to design a morning routine that worked for me.
If you would like to watch instead of reading, you can do so here:
GO TO BED EARLY
This first tip is a no brainer. If you want to wake up early, you really should go to bed early. Simply put, you need enough rest if you actually want to ENJOY waking up early.
I use app on my phone called Bedtime which has really helped me in developing a routine. I get a reminder 30 minutes before my bedtime which is a reminder for me to start winding down.
I also set it to do not disturb so that I do not get notifications when I am getting ready to sleep (helps to keep me off my phone because I get distracted a lot).
CREATE A NIGHT TIME ROUTINE
A nighttime routine will help you wind down for the night and make it easier for you to get to bed at your desired bedtime.
Do not try to jump in at the deep end. If you have a goal for when you would like to start waking up, start with where you currently are at and adjust your wake time slowly. You can do this by about 15 minutes every couple of days to allow your body adjust to the changes.
DESIGN A MORNING ROUTINE THAT IS EASY & ENJOYEABLE
This is probably the most important step in creating a morning routine that works for YOU. Your morning routine does not have to be complicated and have 20 steps, you just have to make it something enjoyable so that you look forward to waking up each morning.
Here are some tips of activities that you can incorporate into your morning routine!
KEEP THE SAME MORNING ROUTINE- EVEN ON WEEKENDS
When it comes to building habits, consistency is EVERYTHING. There are plenty of studies showing that keeping a consistent schedule helps you to be less irritable, have more energy and have better sleep results overall.
GIVE YOURSELF GRACE
Do YOU! Don’t try to wake up early because everyone else is doing it. I realize that waking up early and having a morning routine is sort of glamorized these days. But you really don’t have to do it if it is not important to you. There is nothing worse than forcing yourself to start your day early- and you do not even know why.
Find a WHY that is compelling enough for you and you will find it a lot easier to create a morning routine and start getting up early.
