Hello Friends!! I decided to start a blogging series, sort of a ‘How To’ for beginner bloggers and people who are just curious about what goes in the blogging world. We will be starting off this series taking about: How To Balance Blogging with A Full Time Job! I’m sure many of you who are bloggers/ content creators will be able to relate!
If this your first time here… Hi (we hope to see you again soon)! We are sisters (Amara + Dera) who love working on this blog and welcome the challenges and demands that the blog brings! This blog is not our full time job. Both sisters have pretty high demand jobs/ personal lives. We both work in health care and put in long hours to make sure that our future goals as leading professionals in our field is materialized. Long story short, we both have day jobs which we love (more of this in future posts)… and if I am being completely honest, I don’t know if either of us are quite ready to give that up for our Blog. This means that from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am- 10:00 pm, we are constantly trying to find the balance between work and the growing demands of the blog.
One thing to keep in mind guys is that these tips are not going to work on their own. In order to balance work and blogging effectively, YOU have to be motivated and willing to put in the effort to make this work. This means long days. Most days, I put in an extra 3-4 hours after I get home from work researching and creating content. It is definitely not easy, but well worth it!
So How do you do it? How do you find balance between working and blogging?
Love What you do
The first and most important thing about balancing work and blog is the fact that we ABSOLUTELY LOVE what we do. Though it gets busy, and it can be overwhelming at times, we wouldn’t have it any other way. The long hours are totally worth it when we consider that by balancing blogging with our full time job, we are doing what we always dreamed of doing.
This means setting time aside to plan what you are going to post for the week/ month ahead. We have meetings once a month to come up with blog post ideas for the following month. We usually dedicate the weekends to writing blog posts. That way, if you know you have a busy week coming up, you can get the post ready ahead of time, then schedule the posts to be published.
We also plan our social media posts every one week in advance. This saves us so much time thinking of what to post on a daily basis. Regarding social media, we use the app UMNUM to plan our posts. This helps us visualize what our post is going to look like before we even post it.
Make Daily To Do Lists
I can never underestimate the power of lists!!! I love making lists and it is my number one tip for staying organized. Every morning when you wake up (or right before you go to sleep) create a to-do list for the day ahead. Writing everything down will help you to visualize all that you have to do. It will also help you to prioritize. You can determine what requires action urgently on first and what to focus on later. I like to use a planner to schedule my tasks to the minute!! Besides nothing beats the satisfaction of checking items off your list as the day goes on.
Learn How To Create Bulk Content
Whether it is bulk post writing or bulk photography, you save on time if you get the work done ahead of time. This is a secret that every blogger put in practice. It will mean putting in more time and effort upfront, but it helps to streamline the blogging process. The value in this is that when you actually need the content, you have a wealth of options to choose from.
Find Time to Relax
It is important to find time for yourself. This is time where you are not thinking about work or the blog. Even if it means 30 minutes during your drive home. It is important to tune our for a set amount of time so that you do not get burned out.
Moral of the story: It is possible to find a balance between blogging and your full time job. Blogging is definitely a fun part of our lives, but definitely not something that takes up ALL of our lives.
