Here at Azarya we are all for Boss Babes. We are powerful women, and we love nothing more than seeing powerful women rise up and become boss babes! I honestly believe that if more women knew just how powerful they are, the world would be a much better place.
As many of you know I am now a young business professional *flips hair* and I keep finding myself in meetings and conversations with men that make me feel less powerful than I am. It’s not that these men are smarter than me or better at my job than me, they are just somewhat intimidating. Today I am here to spill the tea on being a woman in the work place and 5 things that all boss babes (including myself) need to start saying!
“Thanks, I knew that”
I have been attending school since I was 5 years old. I worked really hard for 4 years for my degree and I am working really hard right now for another one. I am a reasonably intelligent person. Yeah I said it! I am a smart girl! And yet, I constantly find myself allowing men to explain things to me that I already knew. Well enough is enough. If you know something you shouldn’t have to pretend you don’t just to stroke a mans ego. If you know it, say it! That way you save everyones time and energy!
“No thank you, I am not interested”
If you know me, you know that this is probably the most difficult phrase in the world for me. I will probably end up getting married to someone I dislike because I was too uncomfortable to say I was not interested. In this age of #MeToo I am learning that it is not my job to reward a mans confidence, and it is not your either. Next time a 45 year old man asks me for my number I will say: Thank you so much. I understand it took a lot of courage to approach me but you are not the man I have been praying for so keep it moving so I can find him. Well at least I will try to.
“I actually know how to do this”
Again, I am a smart girl. I have 2 brothers, a sister and two parents who are also very smart. They have taught me how to do a lot. From jump starting a car to designing an app, I know how to a do a lot of things. If I need your help, I will ask for it. Until then.. back. it. up!
“I wasn’t done talking”
The number of times I have been cut off mid-sentence by a boy who didn’t know what I was talking about or even what he was talking about is very disheartening! Yes, I say a lot of pointless things, but sometimes I am spitting some real intellectual fire! Let me finish, and listen up, you might learn something!
“No, thank you.”
I don’t know if this is all woman or is this is just me, but I always feel uncomfortable telling people no. But that was the old me. The new me is not wasting her precious time on things she doesn’t want to do. Point black. Period. No questions asked.
Wishing all my boss babes the strength to stand up for themselves!
